Magazine about high and low

MHM Issue 17

Munich University Magazine

In the 17th issue of the Munich university magazine, we tell the visual story of „high and low,“ which runs through every text, every image and the entire graphic realization.

What we found so exciting about this topic was that high and low can be interpreted in so many ways: There are personal, emotional highs and lows, but also for example geographical ones. That’s why the highest and lowest points in Munich appear in the magazine; we talked to a diver and a mountain climber, but at the same time it’s also about the personal perception of high and low, as in poems, for example.

The central design element is the use of scanning techniques that visualize the up and down movement of the theme and that were applied to the headlines and selected text passages. The alignment of the text in the layout is determined by the shape given by the scanned headline. The embossed cover makes the theme also a haptic experience. The texts are for example about the highest mountain someone climbed or personal lows.
